The Xian Qinchuan Development company, owned by the Arms Manufacturing Concern NORINCO from 1997 known as - Xian Qinhuan Automobile debuted in 1990 with a small vehicle of an original design called Qinhuan SX 720/Beifang QCJ 7050. From 1992 to October 2001 another vehicle that was manufactured was Xian Alto QCJ 7080 on license from Suzuki Alto 1985-90. During the 1996 Beijing Car Show the company presented its own Beifang Xiaofuxing QCJ 7085 model, which was manufactured between the years of 1998-99, as Qinhuan Xiaofuxing QCJ 7088. Between the years of 1998-99 Qinhuan QCJ 7081 hatchbacks and QCJ 7082 sedans were also offered. In 1999 the prototype of QCJ 7090 was also presented. In January 2003 BYD Company Ltd (battery manufacturer from 1995) overtook 77% of shares of the Xian Qinhuan Automobile company from the NORINCO concern and chaged its name to BYD (Bi Ya Di) Auto Co. Ltd. In July 2006 this share was enlarged to 99%. In September 2001 the new Taichuan QCJ 7081 Fulaier (Flyer) hatchback was released, which in October 2003 was replaced with a modernized Taichuan QCJ 7081/QCJ 7110 Fulaier Fuxing (Flyer Lucky Star) model, and in March 2005 - with the restyled Flyer (Fulaier) QCJ 7083 A version. From 2004 to February 2008 this vehicle was manufactured under the BYD brand. In 2011 the company is planning to manufacture 500 thousand vehicles.

The latest releases: Beijing '2006 - F8; Shanghai '2007 - F3-R, F6 (serial version); Guangzhou '2007 - F1; Detroit '2008 - F6 DM; Geneva '2008 - F3 DM; Beijing '2008 - e6; Moscow '2008 - F1. Future plans: 2010 - SUV S3.
