Chevrolet is the largest company that constitutes the General Motors concern, which was established by the industrialist William C. Durant in September 1908. GM took over the following American companies: Buick (October 1908), Olds (November 1908 from 1942 Oldsmobile), Oakland (January-July 1909 from 1932 Pontiac), Cadillac (July 1909), Rapid (1909), Reliance (1909), Cartercar (1909), Elmore (1909), Ewing (1909), Welch (1910), Rainier (1911), Scripps-Booth (July 1918), Winton (1924), Yellow Cab (1925.). In 1910 W. C. Durant left the GM concern. In November 1911 along with Louis Chevrolet he established Chevrolet Motor Co. presenting the first model of Chevrolet Classic Six, the production of which started in 1912. In 1913 Chevrolet took over the company of Little, which from October 1911 to May 1913 offered vehicles under the brand of Little. In September 1915 William C. Durant took over the control over the GM purchasing 54,5% of its shares. GM and Chevrolet merged in May 1918. That is how world’s largest vehicle concern was established. The Olds Company (from 1942 Oldsmobile), between the years of 1887-95, constructed steam Olds vehicles. In 1896 it releases fuel vehicle prototype and from 1897 until April 2004 it manufactured vehicles under the brand of Oldsmobile. The Winton Company released its first prototype in October 1896 and from March 1897 until 1924 it manufactured Winton vehicles. Elmore cars were produced between the years of 1903-11, Rainier 1905-12, Yellow Cab 915-29. Cartercar manufactured Cartercar vehicles between 1906 and 1916 and between the years of 1907-08 also under the Pontiac brand. Between the years of 1913-1915 Scripps-Booth manufactured cars under the rocket trademark and between the years of 1915-23 also under the Scripps-Booth trademark. Additionally in the USA General Motors manufactured vehicles under the following trademarks: Marquette (1912 and 1929-30) and LaSalle (1927-40). In January 1924 GM its first Chevrolet vehicle assembly plant located abroad (apart from Canada), which was located in Denmark. Moreover GM took over the following foreign based companies: McLaughlin (1918), Vauxhall (1925), Opel (1929-31), Holden (1931), Suzuki (from 1981 - 3,3%, from 1998 - 10%, from 2000 - 20,3%, from 2006 - 3,2%), Saab (1990 - 50%, from 2000 - 100%), Daewoo (from 2002 - 42,1%, from 2003 - 44,6%, from 2005 - 50,9%). Between the years 1999-2005 GM owned 21,12% of the Fuji Heavy/Subaru Company. From 1971 until April 2006 GM possessed shares in the Isuzu company (from 1971 - 38%, from 1999 - 49%, from 2003 - 12%, from 2004 - 9,9%, from 2005 - 7,9%, from 2006 - 0%). The Equinox model is also manufactured for Chevrolet by the CAMI joint venture (GM-Suzuki) in Canada. Passenger vehicles under the Chevrolet trademark are or were manufactured in the USA, Canada (from 1915), Mexico (from 1937), Russia (from 2002), Poland (1928-31, 1936-39 and from 2007), Korea (from 2003), China (from 1992, from 2006 under the Shanghai Chevrolet trademark), India (1928-52 and from 2003), Indonesia (2002-2007), Thailand (from 2000), Brazil (from 1925), Argentina (1925-78 and from 1997), Venezuela (from 1952), Egypt (1927-58 and 1998-2004 and from 2007) and Japan (1927-41 and 2000-2008), and are also assembled in Colombia (from 1982), Ecuador (from 1981), Ukraine (from 2004), Pakistan (from 2005), Kazakhstan (from 2007) and Uzbekistan (from 2007). Chevrolet pick-ups are manufactured in the USA, Mexico, Canada (until 2009), Brazil, Argentina (1925-78 and 1994-1999), Venezuela, Egypt and Thailand (from 2004), and are assembled in Colombia, Ecuador and Chile (1970-2008).

In 2004 the serial production of S10 pick-up, Venture/Trans Sport minivan, Cavalier sedan/coupe Cavalier and in Canada – Tracker SUV, in 2005 - Malibu Classic sedan, Astro minivan and Blazer SUV, ad in 2006 – the old Tahoe and Suburban SUVs, the old Silverado pick-ups, and in 2007 - Malibu Maxx and old Malibu sedan. From 2003 until March 2006 the new SSR pick-ups were manufactured, and from August 2004 until September 2008 – Uplander minivans. Between the years of 1969-88 and 1994-Junec 2007 Monte Carlo models in six generations were manufactured in Canada. Plans for the future: 2009 - 2nd generation of Equinox (Canada production), Orlando minivan (USA production; 2010 –Aveo successor (Mexico and Korea production), sedan Cruze (USA production, Cobalt successor).
