In July 1919 Andre Citroen began the process of manufacturing of a popular, small Type A Citroen. Between the years of 1955-65 Citroen gradually took over the oldest French automotive company Panhard & Levassor. In 1974 r. Peugeot bought 38,2%, and in 1976 the remaining 61,8% Citroen shares. Citroen passenger models are manufactured in: France, Spain (from 1958), Portugal (from 1961), the Netherlands (from 2009), the Czech Republic (from 2005), Slovakia (from 2008), Argentina (from 1959), Brazil (from 2001), China (1992-2004 under the Shenlong brand and from 2001 under the Dongfeng Citroen brand), Iran (SAIPA Xantia from 2001) and Japan (from 2007 by Mitsubishi), and are assembled in Morocco (from 1986, currently).
